I was saddened to hear today that someone on BBL was blowing their leaves and pine needles into the lake. While it might seem like an easy way to get rid of them, the affect on the lake ISN’T good. When leaves and pine needles rot on the bottom they become fertilizer for weeds! They increase the phosphorus levels. One of the reasons the lake is lowered is so the waterfronts can be cleaned up, removing the leaves, pine needles and debris that causes the phosphorus levels to increase. Please be good stewards of our lake and remove the leaves and pine needles instead of putting them into the water or leaving them to rot. And if you see your neighbor doing this, please ask them to stop, explain why. The following link has a great article about the reasons removing the leaves is so important so you don’t have to take my word for it! Thank you!
